Who we are

 
Essentially Natural was founded in 2005 by Dennis Freedman after a long search for natural products that would assist his disabled wife in her recovery from a traffic accident. Himself being blind, Dennis was deeply concerned about the chemicals found in the usual health and beauty products.
 
“We found that using pure and natural products really helped to relieve my wife’s discomforts and aided the overall healing process – the results were miraculous. We now produce over 100 different hand-made 100% organic products without any chemicals or preservatives.” 
 
Dennis is a firm believer in encouraging other disabled people that they can be successful in pursuing their dreams and ambitions. He employs disadvantaged people in the business and donates a percentage of the profits to the Guide Dogs for the Blind.
 

What you should know before we start

We all know the saying ‘you are what you eat’. The food and drink we put into our bodies can directly determine how healthy we are now and will be tomorrow. But what about the substances we breathe in or put on our bodies? Our skin is the largest organ of our body and it absorbs every harmful particle from the air and every soap, cream and beauty product we apply. In the same way, we breathe in toxins when burning candles or spraying perfumes, deodorants or air fresheners.

The increase in cancer, asthma and eczema is known to be linked to environmental factors including the chemicals that are used in everyday health and beauty products and household candles. Many of these chemicals are derived from the petro-chemical industry. (Creams based on petroleum, for example, actually form a barrier on your skin which stops your skin ‘breathing' and Getting rid of toxins. Commercial deodorants are actually anti-perspirants that stop the normal action of perspiration (the natural way the skin gets rid of waste matter and toxins). In the same way, candles made from paraffin wax give off soot (carbon) and toxins which can be harmful to people with asthma.

Big brand companies like to baffle you with Latin in their list of ingredients, or, worse, do not list them so that you don’t know how harmful these products really are. (It’s legal for an artificial fragrance to be labelled ‘parfum’ under trade secrecy laws. In the same way, a company can, if it so chooses, label a product as ‘Organic’ even if it only contains a very small percentage of organic ingredients.

Here at Essentially Natural we strive to provide you with a real alternative with products that are totally harmless to your body and only made from the purest ingredients possible at a price that is affordable. All but a very few of our products are completely organic,and this is clearly indicated on our website and marked on our product labels. We believe in complete transparency to you, the customer, and so you get what you think you get when you buy from us.

At Essentially Natural, ‘natural’ means natural

Our products offer you the 'real' smell of flowers or herbs rather than the often overpowering and artificial synthetic scents of industrially-made soaps and cosmetics. We only use essential oils, not artificially produced chemical derivatives.

We source the best materials locally where possible, saving you the cost of unnecessary transport or air miles

Our goat’s milk, for example, is from organically-reared goats on a small farm in Lancashire.

Our products are all cruelty Free

All our products are suitable for vegetarians. They are completely cruelty-free. By this we mean that none of the ingredients we use are tested on animals, and We do not use any animal derivatives in our products or packaging. Many of our products are approved by the Vegan Society.
